Out of 23 samples collected, 47 isolates capable of degrading Reactive Black 5 dye and 56 isolates capable of degrading Reactive Red 120 dye were obtained.Majority of themwere gramnegative in nature. The strains capable of degrading the dyes were the ones isolated from textile industrial effluents. Isolate USJB35 which could show70%reduction of Reactive Black 5 dye and USJR41which could show80%reduction of Reactive Red 120 dye were identified as Aeromonas spp. And Pseudomonas spp respectively based on biochemical tests. 16s rRNAsequencing of USJB35 and USJR41 showed 99% similarity with Aeromonas punctata and Pseudomonas aeruginosa respectively.
