A novel method of platinum electrodeposition from surfactant bath

Platinumwas electrodeposited onto graphite surface froma dilute solution of PtCl6 2- at lowcurrent density (0.5mAcm-2) in presence of CTAB at pre CMC under galvanostatic condition. The effect CTAB on controlling the particle size of platinum catalyst has been studied. Pt deposited onto graphite from CTAB bath, showed lower onset potential and larger current density for the oxidation ofmethanol compared to that of the conventionally deposited catalyst. This electrode when used in lab model H2-O2 fuel cell, the latter shows better charge-discharge behaviors.
