A validated high performance thin layer chromatographic method for simultaneous estimation of aspirin and clopidogrel in pharmaceutical dosage form

A simple, accurate, precise and rapid high-performance thin-layer chromatographic method for simultaneous determination of Aspirin and Clopidogrel Bisulphate, both as a bulk drug and in pharmaceutical formulations was developed and validated. The method employed aluminum TLC plates precoated with silica gel 60F254 as the stationary phase. The solvent systemconsisted ofToluene:Methanol: Chloroform(5:3:2, v/v/v) asmobile phase. Densitometric analysis of Aspirin and Clopidogrel Bisulphate was carried out at 226 nm. The system was found to give compact spots for Aspirin (Rf 0.4 0.02) and Clopidogrel Bisulphate (Rf 0.85  0.01). The linear regression analysis data showed good linear relationship in the concentration range 600-1600 ng per spot for Aspirin and 1200-3200 ng per spot for Clopidogrel Bisulphate. The method was validated for precision, accuracy, specificity and robustness. The method has been successfully applied to the analysis ofmarketed formulation.
