Background:
Telogen effluvium(TE) is one of the most common types of diffuse hair shedding, inwhich anagen-phase hair follicles prematurely transit to the telogen phase after an acute illness, resulting in increased hair shedding 2 to 3 months later. There are a fewtreatmentmodalities for TE, so we decided to do this randomized clinical trial to compare the efficacy of the minoxidil and Lawsonia inermis (Henna) in the telogen effluviumfor the first time in the world. Patients and Methods: In this double-blind, randomized clinical trial,we compared the efficacy of theminoxidil andHenna lotion in the telogen effluvium. Itwas a double – blind randomized clinical trial in that 60 patients with telogen effluvium were divided randomly in two equal groups. InMinoxidil Group, 30 patients applied 1 ml of minoxidil solution 2% twice daily. In Henna Group 30 patients applied 1 ml of henna lotion twice daily.
Results: Themean duration of telogen effluviumwas 6.33weeks inminoxidil group and 7 weeks in the Henna group. This difference was not statistically significant. No side effectwas detected in any of the two groups.
Conclusion:Our study indicated thatHenna lotion is as effective asminoxidil in treatment of TE.
