The protein tyrosine phosphatase 1b as a drug target for the treatment of diabetes type II. Developing effective and selective PTP1B inhibitors
Phaedra Eleftheriou
PTP1Bis a protein tyrosine phosphatase involved in insulin receptor desensitization.PTP1Binhibition, resultingin prolongedmaintenance of the activated state of the receptor, practicallyenhances insulin effect. Thus PTP1Bhas become a drug target for the treatment ofDiabetes type II.Although, a great number of inhibitors have been developed, amongwhich inhibitors binding to the catalytic site and allosteric inhibitors, development of novel highlyeffective and selective compounds based on profound knowledge of the structural characteristics of the bindingsites and inhibitors still remains a challenge.
